The procession continued on, towards Prague Castle, where the body of Saint Wenceslas was laid to rest in St. Vitus Cathedral. But the events in front of the prison at the site of today’s Malostranské náměstí (Lesser Town Square) did not remain without consequences. The prison warden, full of amazement and fear of God’s judgment, hurried to the judge and reported everything that had happened to him. The judge, though initially disbelieving, could not ignore such testimony and ordered a new investigation into the case. And indeed, after careful examination, it turned out that the man accused of witchcraft had been unjustly imprisoned, based on false accusation and slander.
And so it happened that thanks to the miraculous stopping of Saint Wenceslas’s cart, a great injustice was rectified. Malostranské náměstí (Lesser Town Square), then still nameless, was forever consecrated by this miracle, reminding that even in the darkest times, faith and justice do not lose their power. And the legend of Saint Wenceslas’s cart, which stopped for an innocent man, is told to this day, as an eternal testimony to divine providence and the power of a pure heart.
